Albert U. DiMambro, 89, of Stoneham, beloved husband of Joanne (Muscianesi) DiMambro, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Medford, he is the loving son of the late Salvatore and Antonia (Melaragni) DiMambro.
Albert grew up in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1950. He also attended Northeastern University and earned an associate degree. Albert was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was a dedicated member of the VFW in Medford, a Lifetime member of the American Veteran's Association in Wakefield and the Italian American War Veteran's Post 8 in Medford. Being of Italian descent, Albert was also a proud member of the Friends of the North End. Albert worked as an electrical engineer and spent 33 years at the MIT Draper Lab until his retirement in 1993. He was part of the team that developed the guidance and navigation software for the Apollo program, and received recognition from NASA and the US Navy for his contributions over his career. He had a lifelong love of electronics and computers, and he also enjoyed gardening, taking photos, and spending time with his family and loved ones. He was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and will truly be missed.
In addition to being the beloved husband of Joanne, he is the devoted father of Richard A. DiMambro and his wife Christine, Joseph A. DiMambro and his wife Susan, and Joanne M. George and her husband Michael. Cherished grandfather of Sylvana, Alex and Gabriella George, Emily and Mary DiMambro, and Joel and Evan DiMambro. Loving brother of Alfred DiMambro and his wife Catherine, Samuel DiMambro, Vincenza Vittiglio and her late husband Tony, the late Rose Storella and her late husband Charles, and the late Anna DiMambro. He is also the uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Albert's Family at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St., Stoneham on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020 from 9:30am to 11am. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
Immediately following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
Due to Massachusetts COVID-19 restrictions, a mask must be worn while in the funeral home, and we are allowed up to 40% capacity at a time.
