Alfred DiVenuti, age 95, passed away peacefully on September 6th, 2021.
Alfred was born on February 8th, 1926. He was the youngest child of the late Ida Tranfaglia DiVenuti and Arthur DiVenuti and brother to Rose DiVenuti Bruno and Arthur DiVenuti, both of whom preceded him in death.
Alfred was raised in Revere, Massachusetts. As a young man, he excelled in school and had a particular talent for learning languages. A member of the Revere High School Class of 1943, he skipped most of his senior year and entered Harvard College as a member of the Class of 1946. He enlisted in the army during his sophomore year and received a Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge for his service in the Second World War as the lead scout of an infantry rifle squad during the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. Following his military service, Alfred graduated with honors from Harvard in 1948 with a degree in Economics. In 1950 he earned a Masters in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
After completing his studies, Alfred worked in various management positions for the General Electric Company in Massachusetts and Maryland. Before joining General Electric, he was an investigator of foreign shoe machinery for the United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Boston and was a plant manager for the Dine Shoe Company in Wakefeld.
In the 1950s, Alfred traveled to Avellino in the Campania region of Italy to visit his mother's family. He would regard this wonderful trip as one of his most cherished experiences. After marrying in 1970, Alfred settled in Stoneham where he would reside for the remainder of his life. After retiring from General Electric in the late 1970s, Alfred spent his remaining years attending to his beloved family and listening to his vast collection of country & western music.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pierrette (Gagnon), their two children - Gina M. DiVenuti, MD and Alfred DiVenuti Jr - and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT28) STONEHAM Monday, September 13th at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Alfred's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 am. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with his family on Sunday September 12, 2021 from 2 pm to 6 pm in the funeral home. Parking attendants and elevator available.
