Alice (Silva) Gomes

Alice (Silva) Gomes, of Stoneham, formerly of Malden, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 12, 2023. She was 94 years of age.

Alice moved from her native Maderia, Portugal as a teenager and originally lived in Lexington, where she graduated from Lexington High School in 1948.  After marriage, she and her husband settled in Somerville for a short time before moving to Malden where they would remain and raise their family for almost 20 years. Downsizing, they found a small house in Stoneham where she lived for the last 43 years.  She worked at multiple companies as a keypunch operator, ultimately retiring, along with her husband, from the MITRE Corporation in Bedford.  She was an active and vivacious woman, always doing something or going somewhere.  She was an avid and successful bowler who collected a roomful of trophies.  She loved dancing of all kinds, whether it be square dancing, ballroom dancing, or line dancing.  Put on some music, and Alice would find a way to dance.  She was a prolific cook and baker and showered her family with a host of delicacies, many of which will live on for all to enjoy.  Above all, she loved her family and bestowed love and wisdom until her final days.  She was a wonderful, warm, kind, gentle and loving woman that was loved by all, and she will be dearly missed.

Alice is the beloved wife of the late Francis Gomes. She is the cherished mother of Richard Gomes and his wife Maxine, David Gomes and Steven Gomes and his wife Theresa. Loving grandmother of Stacy Gomes Samot and her husband Ari, Jacqueline Comeau and her husband John, Christina Mariano and her husband Nick and Bridget Gomes and the late Michael Gomes.  Great grandmother of Vivian and David Samot and Jacob and Alexandra Comeau. Dear sister of the late Frank Silva, Tony Silva and Angelina Gomes. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT28) STONEHAM on Monday December 18th, 2023 at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Alice's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 am. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Sunday December 17th, 2023 from 1 pm to 4 pm in the funeral home. Parking attendants and elevator available.
