Andrea Costa

Emblem
Andrea (Andy) Costa, of Pelham New Hampshire, formerly of Stoneham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 16, 2024 at his home with his family by his side. He was 86 years of age.

Andrea, the first son of Giuseppe and Stella Costa, was born in Augusta, Sicily.  As a young boy growing up during WWII he attended school until the age of 13 when he began working as a Mason apprentice. Life was difficult in Sicily, and he decided to immigrate to America as a young man in 1954 with his beloved father (Giuseppe) seeking a better life for the family.  Andrea worked to make a living and support the family.  He eventually received the opportunity to join an apprentice program with the Plasterers of Boston, Local 10.

After graduating his apprentice program, he was drafted into the US Army in 1961, earned his GED, and proudly served under the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.  After leaving the Army, he continued with the Plasterers of Boston, in which he forged a 32-year career as a Plasterer.  In retirement, Andy had the opportunity to start an Apprentice School for the Local 534, sharing his expertise and knowledge with the next generation of Plasterers.  Andy was a proud Italian American.  He valued his Italian roots and was a member of the Augusta Boston Club, where he proudly served as its President until 2008 and in the same year received the 'Man of the Year' award! He spent the last 12 years serving as vice president of his retirement community.

Andy enjoyed music and singing, from a member of the 'Stouthearted Men's Chorus of the 1st Armored Division', karaoke with the grandchildren, to recording his own CD.  Singing was his lifelong passion.  He wrote and copyrighted a song “My Only Love” a dedication to the love of his life, Maria Teresa. His wife Maria was his childhood sweetheart, they were married in 1964 and she was his loving wife for nearly 60 years. Of all his accomplishments, his greatest treasure was his family.

Andy is the beloved husband of Maria Teresa (Romeo) Costa. He is the cherished father of Joseph Costa and his wife Joan, Frank Costa and his wife Heather, Sandra Young and her husband Robert and Steven Costa and his wife Diana. Loving grandfather of Nicholas Young, Bryce Blanchard, Jaycee Couto, Jessica Couto, Ashley Costa, Alexa Costa, Gavin Costa, Benjamin Costa, Christopher Costa and Luke Costa. Dear brother of Vincent Costa, Mary Ann Peters and the late Frances Fricia and Diane Marchese. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
