The universe gained a beautiful soul with the sudden passing of Andrew (Andy) W. Devlin, 37, on August 14, 2015.
A self-proclaimed "Professional Appreciator of Moments," Andy was a compassionate and loving man who would undeniably put the needs of others before his own. There was no question when Andy would arrive on the scene. His charismatic smile, booming voice and warm hugs always accompanied wherever his travels led him. In case someone missed his entrance, one just needs to look outside to find his unmistakable van proclaiming "Burn your stars bright."
Andy was born on December 28, 1977, the son of Peter and Jo Devlin. Andy worked as an independent film maker and producer, something he aspired to be throughout his life and succeeded in his recent years. In a "traditional" setting, he worked at the MIT Neuroscience Lab and Raw Art Works for many years. Specifically at RAW, he encouraged young people to "embrace your awesome" and nurtured their love for artistic expression.
Andy graduated Stoneham High School in Stoneham, Mass. with the class of 1996. Thereafter, he graduated Emerson College in Boston, Mass. with the class of 2000.
To say he was passionate and creative about life would be an understatement. Whether he was leaving "Secrets of the Universe" on chalked pavement, notes in a bottle or his own van "Eshe", Andy enjoyed words of wisdom and motivation. Whenever inspiration struck, you could be sure he would have a notebook at the ready to jot down ideas for his next project, favorite song or quote. Andy was a passionate lover of music, film, art, and, above all, people. He used social media to document his everyday experiences in life. Andy's unique ability to see the splendor in what most people would consider mundane was breathtaking to witness.
Andy was born and raised in Stoneham, Mass. but considered many different places home. This includes Jamaica Plain, Mass., Brooklyn, New York, the Nevada desert and every single person who welcomed him during his adventures across the United States. He made a wonderful impact on everyone he met along the way. Burning Man became a yearly tradition for
Andy to celebrate everything he loved about life and a way to pay homage to the universe.
In addition to his parents, Andy is survived by his twin brother Brian Devlin and his wife Amy Devlin, his sister Carolyn Wilk and her husband Bill Wilk, and his younger brother Alex Devlin. He was the loving uncle of Phoebe and Miles Devlin and Fiona, Ania and Evan Wilk.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Dr. Thomas and Edwina Devlin, Bill and Josephine "FiFi" Wolbach.
Finally, but not least, Andy is survived by friends past, present and future across the countless encounters he had throughout his life.
Everyone is welcome to the celebration of Andy Devlin on Saturday, August 22nd from 2PM to 6PM in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28), STONEHAM. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
The family asks guests to bring a picture of "anything Andy" to create a collage of his life.
Memorial donations can be made to the Devlin Medical Scholarship Fund, 34 Pleasant Street, Stoneham, MA 02180, or to Raw Art Works, 37 Central Square, Lynn, MA 01901.
