Anna M. Cowell

June 27, 1923 — July 1, 2004

Anna M. "Nancy" (Ransing) Cowell of Brockton formerly of Reading passed away on Thursday , July 1, 2004 at her home. She was 81 years of age.

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ann B. (Ettner) Ransing. She graduated from Central High, Providence R.I. class of 1941 and married Douglas A. Cowell in 1943. They lived in Reading from 1958 to 1999 and then she moved to Brockton to live with her son Mark. "Nancy" as she was known by all her family and friends was a telephone operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph and later was a sales person for Gilchrists in Stoneham and Marshall's in Reading.

Nancy was a former member of the Reading Women's Club and the Reading Choral Society. She was a soloist at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Woburn for many years and also was a Communicant at St. Athanasius Church, Reading.

Mrs. Cowell was the beloved wife of the late Douglass A. Cowell, the devoted mother of Douglas R. Cowell of Reading and Mark A. Cowell of Brockton and the loving grandmother of Douglass E. of Reading, Natlie A. of Reading, Gared A. of Brockton and Daniel A. of Brockton. She was the sister of Lorraine B. Grant of Medford, Paula Schlager of PA and the late Edward E. Ransing.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours in the Russell Funeral Home 165 Belmont Street, BROCKTON Monday July 5th from 4-8 pm and Tuesday July 6th from 9 - 10:30 a.m. in the Joseph Doherty Funeral Home 11 Linden Street, READING followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. READING at 11 a.m. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
