Anna J. (Scarpa) Perry

Anna J. (Scarpa) Perry of Stoneham passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Sunday, July 16, 2023.  She is 94 years of age.

Born on Tuesday, October 2, 1928 in East Boston, Anna is the loving daughter of the late Ralph Scarpa and Innocenza (Grilli) Scarpa.  Anna is a warm, gentle & kind daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, great aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.

Anna had a servant’s heart.  She was a member of St. Patrick Parish for 65 years where she served as an Extraordinary Minister, was a member of the Mother’s Club while her children attended the parish school, and was a proud member of The Mother’s Four, in which she played guitar and sang at Mass back in the ‘70s when Folk Masses were in vogue.

In her younger years, she was an avid skier and roller skater, spending many weekends on the slopes during ski season and sewing costumes and rehearsing for roller skating shows in her spare time.  Later in life her sewing skills became an invaluable service in the costume department for Stonham Summer Theatre in 1979-84, where she also assumed the role of Stage Mother to the many young members of the group which included her own children.

Aside from her immediate family, Anna’s love of her extended family and friends was well known.  She organized many family reunions for which she also spent hours doing research on the Grilli family history.  Anna’s organizational and planning skills will long be remembered by members of the Baldwin Apples Squares, where she and Dan danced for decades.

Anna is the beloved wife of Bernard D. “Dan” Perry.  She is the devoted mother of Susan T. Tatarsky and her husband Bruce, Paul F. Perry and the late Michael D. Perry.  The dear sister of Arthur G. Scarpa and his wife Kerstin, the late Alfred L. Scarpa and his late wife Renata, the late Albert M. Scarpa and his surviving wife June.  Anna is the caring aunt of Kristina Scarpa and her husband Neil Hamel and the doting great aunt of Kristina’s children Cameron Scarpa, Alex Hartnett and Jordan Hartnett.  Loving Godmother to the late Renata “Rini” Dryer. She is also lovingly survived by nephews Stephen, Tommy and Peter Scarpa, great nephews Chris Dryer and Andrew Scarpa, great nieces Amy Dryer and Natalie Scarpa and many cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
