Anthony Maffeo

Anthony Maffeo, Sr. of Stoneham passed away on Friday May 27, 2022 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.  He is 83 years of age.

Born on Sunday, September 11, 1938, in Everett, Anthony is the loving son of the late John and Annette (D’Agostino) Maffeo. Anthony is a warm, kind and outgoing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone he met.  He will be truly missed by all.

Anthony is the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Minghella) Maffeo.  Anthony and Mary Ann were together for 66 years and married for 61 “marvelous” years. They met at Stoneham High School, and he was the love of her life.  He graduated from Stoneham High School in 1957, then went to work at Novel Iron Works as a Structural Steel Salesman for 26 years and then continue that career at Bennington Iron Works until he retired.  Anthony was a born salesman, as he loved to meet new people and would strike up a conversation with everyone he met.  He and Mary Ann married and settled in Stoneham and started a family.  Family was of the utmost importance to him, and he always put family first.  He loved attending his children’s sporting events and continued that tradition as he was always in attendance at his grandchildren’s hockey, football, soccer and field hockey games.  He loved to travel with his family and friends and had great times at Hampton Beach, Mexico, Italy and Disney World.  The highlight of his travels was for their 50th Anniversary the entire family went on a cruise.  On any given Friday night, you could find Anthony with his usual group of friends playing a high stakes poker game where .25 cents was a high raise, he played cards with his same group of friends for over 40 years.  Another love of Anthony’s is owning horses and going to Rockingham and Suffolk Downs to watch horse racing.  For their 25th wedding anniversary Mary Ann surprised him with a racehorse, which tied for first in a dead heat in his first race. Anthony continued his love of horse racing throughout his life, although he stopped owning horses you could usually find him in his favorite blue chair watching horse racing on the television.

Anthony is the devoted father of Cheryl Begnal and her husband Chuck, Anthony Maffeo, Jr. and his wife Debbie, John Maffeo, Sr. and his wife Terri and Lori Beauclair and her husband Stephen.  The loving grandfather of Nicole Begnal and her fiancé Dave, Andrea Begnal, Ashley and Alex Maffeo, John Maffeo, Jr. and his wife Michelle, Melissa Vultaggio and her husband Ryan, Greg, Allison and Gianna Beauclair, Anthony is the proud great grandfather to his namesake Anthony Jack “AJ” Vultaggio.
