Antoinette (Picano) Gargano, 92, beloved wife of the late Saverio Gargano, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Cassino, Italy, she is the loving daughter of the late Luigi and Lucia (DelGreco) Picano. She came to the United States at the age of six.
Antoinette grew up in Stoneham, MA and was a graduate of Stoneham High School. She was the recipient of the MacDonald Medal; a recognition of good influence and character in the school. After graduating from Stoneham High, she was the secretary at the school for several years. She married her loving husband Saverio and raised their family in Woburn. Antoinette loved to cook, bake and spend time in her flower garden. She enjoyed many wonderful times visiting her home and relatives in Italy. Antoinette's greatest joy came from her family and grandchildren.
Never one to be idle, she was employed by Lytron Corporation, Woburn in a secretarial role once all of her children were enrolled in school. She later took on several retail positions, settling in at Macy's until she was in her early eighties. After her retirement she became a volunteer at the Woburn Senior Center, working in the gift store and attending their many functions.
Devoted mother of Thomas S. Gargano and his wife Sandra Sears, Vicki A. DeBarros and her husband Dennis, Alaine T. Gargano and the late Michael Gargano. Cherished grandmother of Matthew DeBarros and his wife Christina and Peter DeBarros. Dear sister of the late Frank Picano, as well as loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (Rt. 28) Stoneham on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Antoinette's life at St. Mary's Church, 158 Washington St., Winchester, MA at 10:30am.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Antoinette's family in the funeral home on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 4 to 7pm. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
