Athena (Pappas) Govatsos, of Stoneham, passed away on Monday June 24, 2002 at New England Medical Center Hospital, Boston. She was 84 years of age.
Born in Lowell, Mrs. Govatsos was a resident of Stoneham for the past 48 years.
Athena was a great friend who brought joy and laughter to everyone she touched. She loved her Church and loved music. She was a member of the over 50's group, the Lady Philoptochos Society and the Macedonian Society. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Athena was the beloved wife of James Govatsos. She was the devoted mother of Andrew Govatsos and his wife Maureen of Salem, N.H., Charles Govatsos of Burlington and his companion JoAnn Mortti of Bedford and cherished grandmother of Jim, Andrea, Nick and C.J. She was the sister-in-law of Evelyn Pappas of W.Roxbury, Ann Pappas of NYC and aunt of Helen Costas, Alexis Winnell, Marie Winnell, Gary Pappas, Leslie McGowan, Stacey Martinelli and John Winnell Jr.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours at the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (Rte. 28) STONEHAM on Wednesday 4 - 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be celebrated in The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church 70 Montvale Avenue, Woburn on Thursday at 10 a.m.
