Augustus J. "Gus" Bono of Stoneham passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston while surrounded by his family. He was 82 years of age.
Born on March 29, 1936 in the North End of Boston, Gus was the loving son of the late Vincenzo Bono and Lucia (Sclafani) Bono. Gus was a warm and caring brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gus enrolled in the Marines after high school and was stationed in Paris Island, SC. He was very proud to be a marine and often reminisced of his time in active duty.
After earning an accounting degree from Bentley College, Gus became an accountant for companies including Great Atlantic Fish, The Lowell Sun, IMG, Pastene and The DiLorenzo Company.
He met his wife of 57 years, Chickie, while living next door to her in Everett. After starting a family, they eventually moved to Stoneham where they have lived for the last 50 years.
Although he's an avid Boston sports fan, family was the most important thing to 'Papa Gus'. He was happiest when he and Chickie were surrounded by their children and grandchildren. His favorite thing to do was to watch his grandchildren play sports and participate in school activities. 'Papa Gus' was a mainstay on the sidelines and his infectious smile left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Gus is the beloved husband of Annette "Chickie" (Caprio) Bono. He is the devoted father of Louise Daubresse and her husband Gary, Vincent Bono and his wife Reda, Anthony Bono, and Michael Bono and his wife Brittney. The cherished grandfather of Emma Daubresse, Kevin, Michael, Daniel, Alyssa, Meagan, Anna, Jonathan and Mia Bono. Gus is the dear brother of Anthony (Susan), Frank (Vicki), Joseph (Mary), Josephine, Vincent (Rebecca) and the late Nina. Brother-in-law of the late Guy, Diane and Joe. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
