Barry Newell

Barry F. Newell of Reading passed away suddenly on Friday, June 9, 2017.

Born on March 25, 1946 in Boston, Barry was the loving son of the late Harry Newell and Lillian (Little) Newell. Barry was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Barry was the beloved husband of Annamae (Flahive) Newell. He was the devoted father of Ryan M. Newell and his wife Melissa and Erica L. Deane and her husband Cameron. The cherished grandfather of Lauren, Jack, Katherine, Liam, Tyler and Lorelee, Barry was the dear brother of the late Cheryl MacKay, Deana Newell and Lorelee Newell. He was the caring uncle of Robert MacKay and his wife Jan.

Barry graduated first in his class in the 50th Massachusetts State Police Training Academy. He served proudly on the Massachusetts State Police for over 40 years until his retirement in 2008. An honest and devoted man, Barry's love for his family was unparalleled. Barry was born and raised in Reading, and was a Reading Rocket through and through. A tri-captain in high school, Barry's competitive nature was perfectly balanced by his calm demeanor. Loved by all who met him, Barry was a gentle giant who was respected and loved by countless friends and family. He was a role-model to many; someone that his friends and family aspired to be like. A devoted "Papa," Barry spent his retirement years spoiling his grandchildren with a self-less, unconditional love that they could always count on. Barry's legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren.

A gifted athlete, Barry enjoyed and excelled in multiple Reading High School Sports. To honor his legacy, donations can be made in Barry's name to support the Reading High School Athletic program. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Wednesday, June 14th from 4-8pm in the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING. Parking attendants and ramped entrance are available.

A Funeral Service Celebrating Barry's Eternal Life will be held on Thursday, June 15th at 10am in Grace Episcopal Church, 160 High St. MEDFORD. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH. Interment Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
