Bernard F. Donovan of Reading passed away on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at Woodbriar of Wilmington. He was 94 years of age.



Bernard was born in Dorchester. He was an employee for forty plus years for the New England Telephone Company. Bernard was involved in local youth sports and was actively involved in several local churches. He was a warm and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, brother in law and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.



Bernard proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army during WWII.



Bernard was the beloved husband of the late Eileen (Cuddy) Donovan. He was the devoted father of Bernard F. Donovan Jr., and his wife Margaret, Patricia O'Brien and her husband Edward and Richard Donovan and his wife Sandy. Bernard was the cherished grandfather of Brendan Donovan and his wife Alison, Shawn, Meghan, Christopher and Katie Donovan and Michael O'Brien. He was the loving great grandfather of Ella Marie and Leah Rose. Bernard was the dear brother of Therese Macdonald, Dorothy Hannon and her husband Jack and the late John Donovan, Marie Flynn, Trudy Colbert and Helen McDonald. He is also survived by his brother in law Paul Cuddy and many loving nieces and nephews.



A Funeral Mass Celebrating Bernard's Life will be held on Saturday at 10:30am at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St. Reading. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family prior to the Mass from 8:30-10:00am in the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING. Parking attendants and handicapped entrance are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading.
