Brendan L. Hoyt Jr., a longtime resident of Reading, Massachusetts, passed away on March 11, 2026.
Born on January 5, 1946, Brendan was the beloved son of Sally M. Hoyt, and the late Brendan L. Hoyt Sr. of Reading. He was the devoted husband of Laura L. Hoyt, the loving father of Seth A. Hoyt, Johnathan F. Hoyt, and Emily A. Hoyt, and the cherished grandfather of Amirah and Sophia Hoyt. He was also the dear brother of Sally-Jean (Hoyt) O’Grady and her husband, Dr. Alan O’Grady, and the late John E. Hoyt.
Brendan was a direct descendant of Reading’s historic Parker Tavern. His grandmother, Florence (Doucette) Hoyt, was born in the Parker Tavern and lived there until the day she was married.
Brendan was a graduate of Saint Agnes School in Reading, Malden Catholic High School in Malden, Boston College, where he earned his B.A., and Suffolk Law School, where he earned his J.D. He went on to practice general law in Winchester and Reading for 45 years, serving his community with dedication and care.
Brendan enlisted in the US Army and served as a lieutenant in Korea during the Vietnam era. He was also a proud member of the VFW and American Legion Post 62.
Above all, Brendan will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, family man, and loyal friend. He always put his family first and gave generously of his time to help veterans, friends, and anyone in need. His kindness, strength, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Brendan’s life will be held at the American Legion at a future date.
