Brock Lynch

Brock Lynch, 92, was born in Boston Massachusetts. The son of Dr. Clement F and Eleanor (Brooks) Lynch, he was raised in Winchester and was a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, including Leeds and, most recently, Reading. He also resided in West Palm Beach, Florida.

In his early years, Brock attended Catholic elementary schools in Malden and later was a graduate of Winchester High School in 1941. He attended college at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana, graduating in three years with a pre-medical degree in 1943. That same year he attended Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut and earned his medical degree in 1947.

Brock's medical career also included internships at Western Reserve University Hospitals (OH), Assistant Resident Surgeon at Malden Hospital, Teaching Fellow in Pathology and Surgical Resident at Tufts University and New England Medical Center (MA), Chief Resident at St. Elizabeth's Hospital (MA), Cancer Surgeon at Sloane-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center, Senior Surgeon at the Tumor Clinic of St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Boston Dispensary (MA). He was also a member of the Board of Advisors at Cardinal Cushing College in Boston, Co-Chairman and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the American Association of Clinical Counselors. As he continued his career he went into private practice in Malden for several years as a general practitioner and cancer specialist. In his later career, Brock joined the staff at the Northampton Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leeds where he retired in 1995.

In his sophomore year at Yale University Brock joined with the Army ROTC and Navy V12 programs and served in the United States Navy towards the end of World War II. In 1951, during the Korean War, Brock, again, served two years with the United States Air Force as a captain and Chief of Surgical Services at Mitchell Field Air Force Base Hospital (NY).

A dancer from the age of eight, Brock had a life-long passion for the arts, including dance, singing, and acting. He was an accomplished tap dancer and as a young man participated in many youth dance companies and shows. While in college, the services and during his medical career he continued his love for song and dance and participated in many charity events. In 1996, at the age of 72, he became a member of the Young At Heart Chorus, a Northampton, Massachusetts based group of elderly rock singers. He was happiest entertaining with the Young At Heart Chorus spending over 20 years performing around the United States and internationally. He often stated that he was a doctor who loved to dance and sing but in his heart he was a dancer and singer that was a doctor.

Brock died October 30, 2016 at Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Massachusetts following a brief illness. He leaves his sister, Barbara (Lynch) Gugger, 10 nieces and nephews and their extended families, and many loving friends.

Funeral from the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Friday, November 4th at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Brock's Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:30am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Wednesday, November 2nd from 4-7pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and ramped entrance are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne.
