Burton F.
Riley, Jr.
November 30, 1939 – October 12, 2024
Burton Francis Riley, Jr., beloved husband of Mary (Lucas) Riley, passed away on October 12th, 2024. Born in Somerville, he is the loving son of the late Burton F. Sr. and Anne (Lyons) Riley.
Burt grew up in Somerville and Lowell. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Coast Guard. Burt married the love of his life Mary and they settle in Medford where they stayed for 30 years, then retired to North Andover. Burt worked for the Boston Globe as a photo engraver for over 40 years until retirement.
Burt and Mary traveled extensively. They enjoyed many great summers and weekends at their home in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire. A lover of antique cars, Burt was proud of his 1961 Pontiac and was a member Pontiac International Club, the Nor-Eastern Chapter.
Burt was close with his family. He attended the yearly family reunion. Burt greeted everyone with "Bahumbug!" He also had terms of endearment for his wife, Meany Mary and his nieces, the Rotten Little Kids.
Burt will be missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary, his siblings, nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
In addition to being the loving husband of Mary, he is the beloved brother of Anne Garibotto and her husband George of Reading, Christopher Riley and his wife Maria of North Carolina and John Riley and his girlfriend Sandy of Maryland and brother-in-law of Paula Lucas, Edward Lucas and his wife Jackie and Donna Lucas. Burt is also the cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading (Corner of Park St. and Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 from 10am to 12pm.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held to celebrate Burt at 12:00pm at the Funeral Home.
Interment to follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
