Carol Ann Lim (Moran), 80, of Reading, Massachusetts passed away peacefully after a thirty-six year battle with Multiple Sclerosis on December 29th, 2025 in the presence of her son and daughter-in-law, Mark Lim and Heather Tenney. Carol was born on November 5th, 1945 in Rochester, New York, the daughter of Joseph Moran and Amelia Moran (Brescia).
She attended the Rochester Institute of Technology where she earned her art degree and met her future husband, Hoo Joong Lim, a photography major. They had two sons together, Terry and Mark.
To her sons she will be remembered as a “cool” mom who took them to rock concerts and stood up on the chairs. She took them to New York City to buy fireworks and put up with the endless racket of drum and trumpet practice. She also introduced them to eating at nice restaurants and drinking Earl Grey tea.
Carol loved art. You could see it just by walking into her room, always bright and beautiful. Her love of art influenced those around her in different ways, by exposing us to culture or nurturing artistic explorations. To her friends she was a beautiful soul.
Multiple Sclerosis is devastating and unfair, but Carol was tough. After her diagnosis in 1989, she took odd jobs not kind to those with a disability to make ends meet.
Multiple Sclerosis steals an artist’s ability to draw, but Carol had a stubborn side. The same woman who threw a bag of peaches at a judge for not performing her interracial marriage did not let the disease take her spirit. She will be remembered through the pieces of beautiful art she created throughout her lifetime.
It is an inspiring message for us all to not let the difficulties in life take away our joys.
Carol’s memory will be cherished by her son Terry and his wife Christine and her son Mark and his wife Heather; grandchildren Jeremy, Zachary, Jacob, and Riley; brother Don and wife Joan; niece Colleen and her husband Caleb.
Preceding Carol in death are her parents Joseph Moran and Amelia Moran (Brescia); the father of her children Hoo Joong Lim.
A memorial service will be held in Rochester early next year.
Donations in her name can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society:
