Caryl Newitt

Caryl Newitt of Stoneham, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Friday December 26th, with his family by his side. He was 91 years of age.

Born January 10th, 1934, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, Carl was the son of the late Caryl A. and Flora P. (Yeager) Newitt.

Carl served his country in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. After leaving the Army, Carl returned to college and graduated from Penn State with a BA in Hotel Administration. He then started his long career with Marriott Hotels, spending much of his time running their commercial kitchen and banquet services. It was there that he met his late wife Rita (Howe) Newitt and Carl graciously accepted the role of stepfather/grandfather to Rita’s 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

After retirement, Carl spent much of his time engaged in the communities of both St. Patrick Parish and St. Joseph Parish, volunteering his time and talents, as he often did so generously.

Carl had a tremendous sense of humor and was incredibly quick witted. His quiet presence brought both warmth and laughter to any room he entered.

Carl is survived by his loving family including Philip Howe and his wife Carol, Michael Howe and his late wife Kathy, Kenneth Howe and his wife Rhonda, Thomas Howe and his wife Carol-Ann, Patricia Joyner, Lynne Newitt, the late Kathleen M. Howe and the late Dianne Newitt. He was also the cherished grandfather to Jennifer Rozen, Paul Addonizio, and Alyson Addonizio, whom he helped raise as his own.

He will be greatly missed by the rest of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carl was also lovingly survived by many other friends and family members.

Visiting Hours will be held at Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28) STONEHAM on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 8:30-9:30am. Parking attendants and elevator are available.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating Carl’s Eternal Life will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 10am in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham.
