Catherine Ann (Donahue) Sutherland, loving wife of 54 years to William R. Sutherland, passed away on Friday, August 23 rd , 2024 at the age of 83.

Affectionately known as Cassie, she grew up in Somerville and met her lifelong friends while attending St. Joseph's High School. She was recently involved in planning her upcoming 65th high school reunion. Cassie met the love of her life at the age of 12– she and Bill lived on the same street and their mothers were the best of friends! They married on January 10th, 1970 and settled in Reading to raise their children. Cassie loved being a wife and mother and was involved in her children's activities including scouts, Creative Arts and Pop Warner football. When her children were older, she worked as the office manager for the Reading Housing Authority for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 80. In typical Cassie fashion, she made dear friends at all stages of her life. Cassie was ahead of her time– she drove cross country twice and traveled through Europe with friends before getting married. She and Bill loved traveling and were blessed to spend most of their 60s and 70s traveling with friends and family to Aruba, Las Vegas, Europe and going on many cruises through the Caribbean islands. They went to Ireland in 2019 and visited the Aran Isles, where her mother was born. Cassie also enjoyed reading, sitting with loved ones (especially Bill) on her front porch in Maine, going out to eat and having a glass of wine or "Harvey's" with family and friends.

Cassie's greatest joy came from being with her family and friends and bringing people together. She was the heart of her family. Cassie and Bill hosted Christmas dinner for over 50 years and loved their Memorial Day cookout at their home in York, Maine. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her four grandsons and her face lit up anytime she spoke of them. Cassie had a great sense of humor and positive outlook even during challenging times. She was sustained by her strong faith through both happy and sad times. She was a kind and welcoming person who was loved by all.

In addition to being the loving wife of Bill, she is the devoted mother of Rebecca Schromm and her husband Doug of Reading, William Sutherland of Somerville and Matthew Sutherland of North Reading. Cherished Nana of Liam Sutherland and Owen, Will and Henry Schromm. Beloved daughter of the late Michael and Bridget (Maher) Donahue. Loving sister of Michael Donahue and his wife Nancy and the late Peter Donahue and his wife Kay. Beloved sister-in-law of Joanne Pasquarello and her late husband John, Thomas Sutherland and his late wife Jean and Eileen Munyon and her late husband Frank. Cassie also leaves special cousins Mary Burgess and Mary Folan and is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Funeral services to be held from the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading (Corner of Park St. and Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Thursday, August 29 th , 2024 at 9:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in Cassie's name at St. Agnes Church, 187 Woburn St., Reading at 10:30am. Interment to be held privately.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather for visitation with Cassie's family on Wednesday, August 28 th , 2024 from 4 to 7pm at the funeral home.
