Celia Augusta (Moore) Castignetti , age 96, passed away peacefully at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham, Massachusetts on January 27, 2017. She left us in her sleep after months of overall declining health.
Born in Malden, Massachusetts on October 23, 1920 to Lottie E. (Higgins) Moore and Frank T. Moore, she spent her lifetime in nursing, retiring from Melrose-Wakefield hospital at age 70, having worked in nursing for 50 years. At the time of her retirement she was the most senior employee at the hospital and her achievement was acknowledged by management and staff with a banquet in her honor. Celia served on the home front during World War II at Revere General Hospital where she met, and married, her loving husband of twenty years, Henry Castignetti. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Henry, her devoted sister Vera B. Moore and loving nephew David MacClellan Sr.

Celia was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as President of the VFW Auxiliary at George J. Hall, Post 620, in Stoneham as well as District Commander in Middlesex County. She was an honored member of "The Greatest Generation" who proudly wore her VFW uniform. She marched in numerous parades, organized a myriad of social events, and volunteered regularly to comfort blind children as well as disabled and hospitalized veterans.
Survivors include her sons Henry P. and wife Diane R. Castignetti of Huntington Beach, California and Frank W. Castignetti of Stoneham, Massachusetts. She is also survived by nephews Richard A. Greene of Thailand and, locally, Steven Castinetti, Philip Castinetti, Anthony Castignetti, all of Saugus, niece Susan Castinetti Fiorello of Reading, and grandnephew David MacClellan Jr. of Manchester, NH
