Charles E. McCarthy, of Reading, passed away on Monday December 13, 2010 at his home in Reading. He was 84 years of age.
Born in Boston, Charles was a resident of Reading since 1952. Charles enjoyed traveling with his family throughout the country as well as vacationing in the Florida Keys.
Charles proudly served our Country during WWII as a member of the Navy Seabee. He also served on the Boston Fire Department for over 40 years, retiring as the Assistant Superintendent of the Boston Fire Alarm. Charles was also a member of the Boston Gaelic Society as well as the Florian Hall in Dorchester.
Charles was the loving husband of 60 years to Doris (Gerry) McCarthy. He was the devoted father of Annmarie O'Brien of Salem, Charles J. McCarthy and his wife Evelyn of Beverly, Richard S. McCarthy and his wife Virginia of Lynn, Kathleen McCarthy of Salem, Lorraine McLaughlin and her husband Michael of Winthrop, Robert P. McCarthy and his wife Diane of Haverhill, Deborah DelGreco and her husband Charles of Reading. He was the Loving grandfather of Maureen, Patrick, Christopher, Regina, Richard Jr., Renee, Richard, Daniel, Michael, Daniel A., Robert Jr., Rachel, Ashley, and CJ. Charles was the great grandfather of 7. Dear brother of Robert McCarthy and his wife Jean of Medfield, Marion McLaughlin and her husband Tod of Charlestown, and the late Henry McCarthy and his surviving wife Rosemarie of Amesbury. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Charles Life in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 9am.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Friday from 4-8pm. Parking attendants will be available.
