Charles L. Morgan

June 27, 1933 — December 31, 2009

Charles Lassiter Morgan, 76, of Winchester died December 31, 2009 in Winchester Hospital after a long and difficult illness. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Piper Morgan, three children, Christopher and his wife Sarah, Timothy and his wife Marcelle, Anne and her husband Michael, and six grandchildren, Clayton, Charles, Eliza, Lilly, William and James.

Charlie was born in 1933 in Philadelphia, PA to Lelia H. Lassiter and Lewis S. Morgan. He graduated from Germantown Friends School in 1951 and regularly attended reunions with his class. He later graduated from Harvard University as a member of the Class of 1955, after taking a three-year break to serve in the United States Army. He made life-long friends at Harvard and was a member of the Harvard Glee Club.

Charlie's career path in the investment business began at Smith Barney and was followed by years at Laird and Co. and American Mutual Insurance Company. He later retired from Keystone Custodian Funds as Senior Vice President.

Charlie's passions included family, friends, music of many kinds, reading, war history and antique cars, but music was the thread in the fabric of his life. Many parties, family vacations and birthdays were highlighted by guitar playing, folk songs, carols and spontaneous musical merriment. He taught himself to play the guitar and trombone, however, singing was his forte. He performed in Winchester Gilbert and Sullivan productions and particularly enjoyed singing with the Winchester Unitarian Society Choir, the Harvard Glee Club Alumni and, more recently, with the Songs of Grace Choir. He regularly attended Christmas Revels and the Mystic Seaport Music Festival and loved to sing with anyone who would join him.

A memorial service is planned for January 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the Winchester Unitarian Society with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Winchester Unitarian Society at 478 Main St, Winchester, MA 01890 with a specification for the music program.
