Charles B. Sheridan

February 17, 1925 — March 30, 2008

Charles B. Sheridan, a life long resident of Stoneham passed away at his home on Sunday, March 30.

Charlie was the son of the late Dorothy and Charles Sheridan. Charlie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances E. (Day) and his children; Dottie Conn and her husband Larry, Charlie and his wife Dianne, Kate Duff and her husband John and Judi Viglione and her husband Jimmy.

Charlie leaves his beloved grandchildren; Ami, Michael, Steven, Patrick, Emma, Megan, Michael, Kathryn and the late David. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Abigail, Mallory and Ryan.

Charlie was the brother of Robert Sheridan, Philip Sheridan and the late Edward Sheridan.

Charlie was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees Division of the U. S. Navy. Upon his discharge in 1946 he enrolled at Northeastern University and was a graduate of the class of 1951. During his college years he worked at the Boston Globe as a proofreader. The following year he began his 29 years as a teacher of English in the Woburn School system. For the thousands of students he taught during his tenure he will be remembered most for his selfless dedication to the education of his "kids". He was so concerned about creating a happy environment for his students he did the unusual. During his teaching years he funded his own personal library for the benefit of his students, carpeted his room and installed air-conditioning, a rarity in those days. He loved his time teaching in Woburn and continued his association by returning to the school for every football game during his 18 years of retirement by working in the ticket booth. He was loved and respected by his students and colleagues.

Charlie was a resident of Stoneham his entire life. He would walk every day for various distances and over the years he was considered part of the landscape. Rain, snow or sun he was out there walking, always in Stoneham. Motorists would honk their horns to say hello and he would acknowledge all with a big smile and a wave. As one motorist mentioned "he started my day on a happy note". His daily stop at Dunkin Donuts was a joyous part of his life and the many friends he met with will miss him greatly.
