Clarence "Bob" R. Edson, 95, beloved husband of the late Margaret E. (Crawford) Edson, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage before her passing in 2015, died peacefully, in his recliner at home on Thursday, March 1st. Born in Somerville, he is the only child of the late Clarence and Eva (White) Edson.
Bob grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School, class of 1940. He served his country and is a veteran of the United States Navy. For over 40 years, Bob worked for the Boston-Maine Railroad and retired as a conductor. During his high school years, he was an athlete, playing football and baseball. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, crossword puzzles, painting and gardening. Most of all, Bob loved being with his large loving family.
He is the loving father of Robert P. Edson and his wife Gayle, Peggy A. Edson and her loving companion Mitchell Sikora, James E. Edson and his wife Marcia, Rosemarie Edson and her husband David McColl, Richard M. Edson and his wife Kandi, June Edson-Frisiello and her husband David, John C. Edson and his loving companion Veronica Ekstrom, Matthew C. Edson and his wife Michelle and the late Thomas A. Edson. Father-in-law of Joie Edson and her fiancé James Kiley. Cherished grandfather of 20 and great grandfather of three.
Funeral Services will be held at the Doherty-Barile Funeral Home, 11 Linden St., Reading on Tuesday, March 6th at 11am.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Bob's family on Monday, March 5th from 4 to 8pm at the funeral home. Parking attendants and ramped entrance available.
Interment will take place at Charles Lawn Memorial Park in Reading with Military Honors.
