Father Daniel J. Barrett, retired of Reading passed away on Wednesday November 3, 2004 at Wingate Nursing Center in Reading. He was 84 years of age.

Born in Taunton, Father Barrett was the cherished son of the late Daniel J. Barrett and Helen F. (Weafer) Barrett. Father Barrett was a loving and caring son, brother, uncle and friend he will be missed by all.

Father Barrett graduated from Reading Memorial High School in the Class of 1938. He attended Boston College, graduating in 1942. Father Barrett graduated from St. John's Seminary in 1946 and also has received his Master's Degree in Library Science.

As a priest, Father Barrett was assigned at various parishes through his tenure. He served at St. Joseph' s Church in Medford in 1946, Infant Jesus Parish in Brookline from 1946 to 1947. Father Barrett was assigned at St. Sebastian's Country Day School in Newton from 1947 to 1971 and St. Mary's Parish in Ayer from 1971 to 1996.

Father Barrett was the beloved brother of Sister Mary B. Barrett SND of Wakefield, Robert F. Barrett and his wife Lucretia, Anne E. Barrett, all of Reading. Father Barrett is also survived by 4 loving nieces and 11 grand nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Thursday from 3-6pm in the Joseph Doherty Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING. Father Barrett will lie in state on Friday from 2-4pm in St. Joseph's Church 173 Albion St. WAKEFIELD. Funeral from the Joseph Doherty Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph's Church 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10am. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
