Daniel J. Jones Sr.

Daniel J. Jones, Sr., formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Saints Memorial Hospital at Lowell General.  Dan endured three plus years of health issues, he is now resting in eternal peace as the last of the Jones Clan to now meet his Sisters and Brothers in heaven.

Dan was a hard-working husband, dad and papa for his family.  He was a machinist for 35 years at Hewlett Packard, as well as working second jobs when needed.  He was a loving papa to Derek, Julianna, & Michaela, and his most recent great granddaughter Evelyn Grace.  The kids would always bring a smile to his face whenever he was in their company.

In his younger days, he enjoyed playing in the Reading Men’s Softball League.  Dan was the only one to volunteer to play third base, he had bruises to prove it was the hot corner as advertised.  His son, Dan Jr., found his softball interest from his dad and played in the League for over thirty years.

Dan was so proud as the father of the bride when he walked his daughter Susan down the aisle at her wedding.  He was never one that was comfortable to have the focus on him, it did not matter that day.

He most cherished his times with his wife Margie, a loving marriage of 67 years.  They enjoyed trips to California in their younger days, visiting Dan’s in-laws and traveling to Vegas as a family.

Later in life Dan and Margie enjoyed playing cards with their friends and family.  They also cherished the coffee hours they spent at McDonalds in Reading and Tewksbury with all their friends.

Dan was a true blue Readingite, being born in the house he grew up on Minot Street.  He loved the fact that his roots were in a portion of Reading referred to as Mudville.

Dan is the beloved husband for 67 years of Marjorie (Nugent) "Margie" Jones.  He is the devoted father of Daniel J. Jones Jr. and his wife Diane Marie (Boesen) Jones and Susan A. (Jones) DeLuca and her husband Michael.  The cherished grandfather of Derek Jones and his wife Melanie, Michaela DeLuca and Julianna DeLuca, Dan is the doting great grandfather of Evelyn Jones.  He is the dear brother of the late Sister Mary Aelred, the late William Jones, the late Marguerite Sullivan, the late Dorothy Keaton, the late Robert Jones, the late Paul Jones, the late Robert Clattenburg, the late Charlie Clattenburg, George Clattenburg and Paul Clattenburg.  Dan is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will truly miss him deeply.

Family and friends are kindly invited to join the family on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:30 followed by a prayer service from 10:30 to 11:00 at Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28) STONEHAM.  Burial will be at Charles Lawn Cemetery on Charles Street in Reading immediately following the prayer service.
