Daniel W. Westlake

Daniel W. Westlake passed away peacefully in his home in Wakefield, MA on Thursday, November 10, 2022, after living gracefully with Alzheimer’s disease for fourteen years. He was 67 years old.

Dan was born on July 30, 1955 in Ipswich, MA and was the oldest child of the late Richard and Marie (Ward) Westlake. After high school, he served in the Navy until he was honorably discharged due to asthma. Then, he attended Bentley University and had a highly successful career, eventually becoming IT Director at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Boston.

Dan leaves behind his loving wife, Joan (Vaccaro) Westlake, as well as two children, Amanda and Vanessa Westlake. The dear brother of Kathy Westlake, Lisa Westlake-Fay and her husband Jon, Trish Westlake, Mary Corkins and her husband Craig, and the late Lee Ann Ranalli, Dan is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There was nothing Dan enjoyed more than drinking a beer and watching the Patriots game. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hiking and skiing. He drank black coffee every morning and frequently listened to classical music. He was fascinated by thunderstorms and once wanted to be a meteorologist. He loved Shakespeare and could explain how anything worked. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his family.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Dan’s family on Tuesday, November 15 from 4-7pm at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28) STONEHAM. Then on Wednesday, November 16 at 10am there will be a funeral mass celebrating Dan’s life at Saint Patrick Parish, 71 Central Street, Stoneham. Parking attendants and elevators are available.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to do a small act of kindness in remembrance of Dan.
