Reading - Darrell Ann (Smith) Halloran, 77, beloved wife of Richard P. Halloran, owner and operator of Chief's Barbershop in Reading, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18th, 2017 at Care One in Wilmington.
Born in Boston, she is the daughter of the late John and Rita (Glennon) Smith.
Darrell grew up in Dorchester and moved to Reading over 50 years ago to raise her family with her husband Richard. She worked as a secretary for many years until her retirement. Darrell enjoyed writing poems and short stories, some of which were published in the local newspaper. She loved trips to Washington, New Hampshire, old time television shows, cooking and black and white movies. Darrell loved her family most of all, and being a night owl, her kids didn't get away with much coming in late when growing up. Thanksgiving will not be the same without her and her family and friends will truly miss her.
In addition to her husband of 54 years, Richard, she is survived by three children: Nancy Orsula, Richard Halloran, Jr. and Robert "Bo" Halloran and his wife Michelle; four grandchildren: Eric and Alex Orsula and Derek and Emma Halloran; two brothers: Johnny Smith and his wife Maureen and Billy Smith and his wife Nancy; along with many nieces and nephews and her dear friend Phyllis Vedder. She is predeceased by her sister: Susan Smith.
Friends and family are cordially invited to gather and share memories at the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St., Reading on Friday, November 24th from 8am – 10am. Parking attendants and ramped entrance available.
A Funeral Mass Celebrating Darrell's Eternal Life will be held following the visitation at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., Reading at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be held privately.
