David J. Barisano

David J. Barisano, 74, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He was the cherished husband of Nancy J. Barisano.

He was born on May 4, 1951, in Everett, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Richard and Rosabelle (Webb) Barisano. He was raised in Melrose, Massachusetts, where he attended Melrose High School. He joined the United States Army National Guard Infantry in 1980 dedicating his career to his country. He had a passion for cars and was known for his purchases on a whim.

David and Nancy married in 1990. He enjoyed New Hampshire’s peacefulness and looked forward to spring where he sought after the perfect lawn. They enjoyed discovering new restaurants during their many adventures. In the winter, they enjoyed skiing and snowshoeing.

Some of his favorite memories include golfing with his friends in Ireland, Florida and Myrtle Beach to “chase the white ball”. He joined Vesper Country Club with his wife where they enjoyed many rounds together. He also enjoyed white water rafting on the Dead River.

He loved to travel with his wife Nancy, touring Bermuda, Ireland, Florida, Arizona, Napa Valley and Las Vegas as well as cruising in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mediterranean, and Alaska.

He was an avid reader and a history buff. He was known for his generosity and was always willing to have a spirited political conversation with family and friends.

A few of his many accomplishments included:

Graduate of the Massachusetts Army, Command and General Staff College; Appointed Colonel, Reserve in the United States Army by the President of the United States of America; Graduate of the CIO Certificate Program at the National Defense University, Department of Defense Chief Information Officer and the Information Resources Management College, Washington, D.C; Completed the Information Systems Security Professionals training at the National Defense University for Information Resources Management College; Received Master of Science, Information Management degree, Syracuse University; Awarded Army Commendation metals; and Received the Meritorious Service Metal as Battalion Executive Officer.

David joined the Guard and spent 34 years rising from private to full Colonel with the highlight of his career being given command of the 182 Infantry Battalion.

He was highly regarded, his life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he leaves his brother Richard Barisano and his wife Maryann, his niece Kristin and her husband Dave with their children Tyler and Sydney, his nephew Rick and his wife Ashley with their children Brayden and Travis. His brother-in-law Ralph and his wife Noreen with daughter Teresa and her fiancé Steve, brother-in-law David and his wife Lisa with their children Thomas and Katherine and her fiancé Matt, sister-in-law Sharon and her husband John with their children Sarah and her husband Tom with their children Nora and Grace, Mary and her boyfriend Brendan, and Amy and her husband Alex.

A Funeral Service Celebrating David's Eternal Life will be held on Friday, April 17th at 11am in the Barile - Cota Family Funeral Home, 335 Park Street (Corner of Park Street & RT 28) NORTH READING at the Reading line.  Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with David's Family prior to the Service beginning at 9am in the Funeral Home.  Parking attendants are available.  Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
