David L. Dooley Sr. of Reading and Ossipee, New Hampshire died after a long illness on May 27, 2005 at Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Center. He was 77 years of age.
Born in Reading, David was the cherished son of the late Frank Dooley and Ruth Elizabeth (Dockendorff) Dooley. David was a loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all.
David was the dedicated Former Owner and President of Smith Oil Co. He was known for his kind spirit and generosity to his customers. His commitment and dedication to the town that he grew up in will be long remembered by the community, customers, friends and family.
During World War II, David proudly defended our freedom as a Technician Fifth Grade in the United States Army. He was also a devoted member of the Reading V.F.W. Post 685.
David was the beloved husband of Elinor (Sullivan) Dooley. He was the devoted father of Brenda and her husband Bill VanHorn of Reading, David Dooley Jr. and his wife Kristin of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Robert "Rab" Dooley of Reading, Ronaele Smith and Tim Johnson of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Charlie Dooley of Stafford, Connecticut and Sara Dooley of Reading. David was the proud grandfather of John, Jay, Sharon, Kiley, Jillian, David III, Ryan, Kevin, Lauren and Nicholas. He was the dear brother of Eleanore Richardson of Reading, David Crane of Peabody and the late Phyllis Nelson, Sylvia Brennan, James and Roger Dooley. David was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service celebrating David's life will be held in the Chapel of the Joseph Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING on Thursday at 10:00am with Reverend Thomas Coots officiating. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8pm. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot located behind Atlantic Supermarket on Haven St. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, W. Peabody.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of David to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102 or to the American Kidney Fund 6110 Executive Blvd. Rockville Md. 20852.
