David L. Thorley of Stoneham passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He was 79 years of age.
Born in Medford, David was a resident of Stoneham for the past 51 years. He was a retired Local Testman for New England Telephone and Telegraph. David was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all.
David graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1946. He was very talented. He seemed to be able to fix everything. David played trombone and the cymbals in the Redman Marching Band and the Middlesex Concert Ensemble. He sang with the Cecelia Society in Boston. David was a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Quinnipowit Yacht Club of Wakefield and a Ham Radio Operator for 50 years. During World War II and the Korean Conflict, David proudly served our country in the United States Navy.
David was the beloved husband of Gloria (Maxwell) Thorley. He was the devoted father of Alan D. Thorley and his wife Teresa of Dover Delaware, Douglass J. Thorley and his wife Elizabeth of Colfax California, Stephen L. Thorley and his wife Gayle of Syracuse NY, Susan G. Hess and her husband Wayne of Londonderry NH, Diana L. Farley and her husband John of Chelmsford, Mark E. Thorley and his wife Dianne of Watauga TX, David and Tresa of Lucerne CA. David was the cherished grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 5.
A Funeral Service will be conducted in the Chapel of the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) Stoneham, Saturday February 28th at 11 am with Reverend Joyce Gray of St. James United Methodist Church Stoneham officiating. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm.
