Della M. Marek

October 21, 1922 — December 30, 2012

Della M. (McDonald) Marek of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, December 30, 2012. She was 90 years old.



Born in Boston, MA on October 21, 1922, she grew up in Warner, NH.



Della was the beloved wife of the late Anthony A. Marek for 64 years. They met during WWII at a USO dance. When it was time to start a family they settled in Stoneham. Together they ran Norwood Carpet and Linoleum Company from 1960-1977. Della was the Executive Assistant to Vice President of University Relations at Boston University for 20 years. She received a B.S. in Sociology from Boston University in 1983 at the age of 61.



Della lived a fulfilling and happy life. She loved being in the company of family and friends. She traveled extensively with her husband Tony. Together they enjoyed music and dancing. She loved to read and writing was a particular passion of hers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.



Della was the loving and devoted mother of Linda Howe and her husband Gary of Vermont, Marla Marek and her husband Paul McAuliffe of Kingston, and Dana Marek and his wife Colleen of Stoneham. Della was the cherished Grandmother of Steven Marek and his wife Katie of Stoneham, Nicole Krenning and her husband Andrew of Chelmsford, and Jessica Marek of Brooklyn, NY. She was the dear Great Grandmother of Jared Marek of Stoneham. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.



Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Friday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Della's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Thursday 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and handicapped elevator are available. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
