Donald M. Domoretsky

Donald M. Domoretsky, of Stoneham, formerly of Chelsea, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, at the age of 77, after a long illness.

Born on August 25, 1949, in Chelsea, Donald was the loving son of the late Walter Domoretsky and Stella (Busz) Domoretsky. Deeply devoted to his family, he was a loyal and selfless man who will be remembered for his huge heart, his sense of humor, his love of family, and his willingness to always be there for others.

Donald grew up in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1967. A gifted athlete, he played football, basketball, and baseball for the Red Devils. He excelled on the court, serving as varsity captain and a standout player in the 1960s. After graduation, he worked for the City of Chelsea, becoming a local legend in the Chelsea parks fast-pitch softball league.

Donald met his wife, Marilyn, at a college mixer after being introduced by mutual friends. They would go on to share 53 years of marriage and remained close throughout their lives with many of the high school and college friends who first brought them together.

In 1975, they moved to Stoneham, where they raised their three children. Building lasting friendships within the community, they became active supporters of the local schools, sports programs, and community organizations. Donald never missed a game and could frequently be found at practices and recitals—always there to support not only his own children, but all the kids.

Donald was a skilled tradesman and proud member of the tile setters’ union before owning and operating a tile contracting business with his brother, Michael. He later served for 12 years as a Corrections Officer at the Nashua Street Jail with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department.

In retirement, he worked in security at the Chelsea Early Learning Center, where he became a favorite among students, parents, and staff. He loved children, and it was a role that suited him perfectly.

An avid fan of the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots, Donald also enjoyed concerts and musicals—especially Fiddler on the Roof—WWF wrestling matches at the old Boston Garden, any excuse to eat Chinese food, flea markets, and Sunday morning polka music. Most of all, he cherished holidays with family and friends and the simple joy of sitting and watching his grandchildren.

Donald was the beloved husband of Marilyn R. (Mooney) Domoretsky and the devoted father of Donald Domoretsky Jr. and his partner, Kirsten Larsen; Brian J. Domoretsky and his partner, Kathryn Lorinovich; and Lisa A. Domoretsky. He was the cherished grandfather of Donald “Tripp” Domoretsky III and Vivian Rose Domoretsky, and the dear brother of the late Michael Domoretsky. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Donald’s family on Tuesday, September 29, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Parking attendants and an elevator will be available.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (Route 28), Stoneham, on Wednesday, September 30, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Donald’s eternal life at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham, at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
