Donald W. Pinard passed away peacefully on September 1, 2017, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading, following an 18-month battle with cancer. Don was born on August 26, 1928 and had just turned 89 this past Saturday. He had maintained his independence and self-sufficiency until the last few days. Donald was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Donald was pre-deceased by Mary (Sullivan) Pinard, his loving wife of 60 years. He is survived by his son Kevin Pinard and his wife Pamela and daughter Karen Zahoruiko and her husband Thomas. The cherished grandfather of Abigail Pinard, Nicole Elftman and her husband Timothy, Erika Zahoruiko and her fiancé James Zenevitch and Derek Zahoruiko, Donald was the dear brother of Robert Pinard and his wife Joan. He is also lovingly survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Don grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he met and married his wife Mary. As a young man, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked and ably supported his family through a 40 year drafting career at General Electric in Lynn. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of taking care of his family and home, and the company of friends and neighbors. He was blessed to have over 25 healthy retirement years, during which he enjoyed traveling with his wife, attending his grandchildren's sporting and other events, and golfing through his 88th year. He was especially happy taking local road-trips and dining with friends and family. Donald was very committed to his faith, which he expressed every Sunday at St. Patrick's Parish. Don was kind, generous, and ever-present in his children's and grandchildren's lives, and he considered their friends to be his extended family.
