Dorothy A. (Hanley) Binford, of Andover passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday January 2, 2026. She was 93 years of age.
Born and raised in Medford Dot was the middle child of the 9 Hanley children. She often talked of her many fond memories of the simple pleasures of life in a big family, playing ball and pilfering food from the locked food pantry with her brothers. Her greatest love and joy was her family. Having everyone together meant so much to her and she was the one who organized sibling lunches, family cookouts and her favorite day of the year which occurred sometime in November or December, when she took her grandchildren for their annual shopping spree for their Christmas gifts. Her deep rooted, lifelong Catholic faith was a source of strength and comfort to her throughout her life and if she knew you, she prayed for you.
"Dottie" worked at the Mass General Cancer Center for many years until her retirement in her mid 80's! Her bottomless bowl of candy and a listening ear drew her colleagues to her office for a chat and a treat. She received the 100 Award from Mass General Hospital which is bestowed on those who make a difference in the fight to support cancer research and advancing patient care.
Dorothy was pre deceased by her husband of 66 years, William Binford in 2020. She is the devoted mother of Kathleen Vieira and her husband James of South Paris ME, Linda Boucher and her husband John Hampstead NH and Janice Hickey and her husband Mark of Westford MA. Cherished Nana of Matthew Vieira and his wife Amanda, Michael Vieira, Meredith Fjeldheim and her husband Zak, Sarah Reese and her husband Nate, Joseph Boucher and his fiancé Karen Burt, Annie O'Connell and her husband Kyle and William Hickey and his fiancé Virginia Sullivan, great grandmother of Zachary and Mackenzie Vieira, Owen and Colby Fjeldheim and Mia and Luke Reese. Dear sister of the late Frances Haley,Theresa McMorrow, Jean Ahern, John, Edward, Richard and James Hanley. She leaves her sister and bestie Ruth Sughrue of Haverhill and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass celebrating Dorothy's Eternal Life will be held on Friday January 16,2026 at 11 am in St. Raphael Church 512 High St. Medford. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
