Dorothy (Parker) Thistle of Ormond Beach, FL. and Reading. Died quietly Thursday morning, October 16, with her devoted daughter Laine by her side. She was 87. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Allen Thistle. She is survived by their four daughters, Carol Thistle, Donna Thistle and David Small, Laine and Ron Keltner, Jean Thistle Bond and Steve Bond and three grandchildren, Robert, Daniel and Abigail. Dorothy was born and raised in Boston. She attended Chamberlain Junior College, and became the youngest buyer for Gilchrist's Department store in downtown Boston. She took on a second career later in life as an Assistant Director of Underwriting for the northeast region with the American Mutual
Insurance Company. As a dedicated member of the community, Dorothy was sensitive to the needs of mothers and children experiencing hardship. For her 14 years of service, at age 87, Dorothy was awarded a certificate of appreciation by Family Renew of Ormond Beach, a non-profit that supports disenfranchised families. In her own family, Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral service celebrating Dorothy's life in the Chapel of the Doherty—Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street, READING Thursday at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours will be Wednesday 4-8 PM. Parking attendants and ramped entrance are available. In lieu of flowers please honor Dorothy by making donations in her memory to Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
