E. Patricia (Brent) Killory, of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 18, 2021 after a lengthy decline due to Alzheimer's Disease. She died at home held in a web of love by her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was 81 years of age.
Born in Holyoke, Pat was the daughter of the late Howard E. Brent and Blanche (Roy) Van Marche, and stepdaughter of Richard (Van) L. Van Marche. Pat was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Pat had a lifelong love of math and numbers. At the age of 12, she began keeping the books at her family's business, Van's Kitchen Mart. Although she won a scholarship to Boston University by earning her high school's accounting award, she did not complete her degree for another 11 years. Instead she supported her family while her husband completed his PhD. She was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society and earned the 4th highest grade on the national CPA Exam. With undeniable brilliance in taxation, Pat broke the glass ceiling of international public accounting firms in the 1970s, working for Ernst & Young and PwC. She earned an MS in Taxation from Bentley University and also taught in that program. After retirement Pat continued in solo practice specializing in estate tax planning and returns.
Pat and her husband, Jack, spent every spare moment sailing. They were long time members of Eastern Point Yacht Club in Gloucester, where Pat was known for her floppy sun hats she lined with corks to prevent losing them to the ocean. Pat loved travel, which she did frequently as a consultant to international locations of client businesses. But, her favorite trips were to Ireland with her husband. She was an avid photographer, especially of seascapes and giraffes. In her final years, she overcame her 76 year-old phobia of dogs by loving Ziggy, the family poodle.
Pat was the beloved wife of the late J.F. Killory. She was the cherished mother of Ro Andersen and partner Darlene M. Ford, and the late James R. Killory. Devoted grandmother of Trevor Andersen and his wife Daphney, Sinead Andersen, and Tristan Andersen and his partner Caitlin Duffy. Loving great grandmother of Eden Duffy-Andersen, Odin Smith Andersen, and Rohan Smith Andersen. Dear sister of Richard Brent, Margo Huebner, Richmond Van Marche and Deborah Van Marche. Loving friend of Donna T West. Pat is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
As was Pat's wish, services will be held at a later date. Donations in her honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Rosie's Place.
