Edmund F. "Skybe" Knowles
October 2, 1929 — April 7, 2017
Edmund F. "Skybe" Knowles, Jr. of Reading (Mudville), passed away suddenly on Friday, April 7, 2017 at home. He was 87 years of age.
Born on October 2, 1929 in Winchester, Edmund was the loving son of the late Edmund F. Knowles and Catherine (Greene) Knowles. Edmund was a warm and dedicated son, brother, husband, father, uncle and loyal friend. He will be deeply missed.
Edmund was a kind, soft spoken gentleman. He had a way of making you feel that you were all that mattered when talking with him. He was a devoted family man, putting his family before anything. In the winter, he wouldn't hesitate to build an ice skating rink in his backyard for his sons and neighbors to enjoy. He also shared his time and talent as a baseball coach for Reading Youth Baseball.
Edmund graduated from Boston College, 1957, and was a Sr. Marketing Executive for John Hancock for several years. During the Korean Conflict, he valiantly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Air Force. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Reading Council #1031.
Edmund was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. (Hall) Knowles. He was the devoted father of Daniel W. Knowles and his girlfriend, Dale Hines and the late Brian E. Knowles, Timothy G. Knowles and James F. "Bucket" Knowles. The adopted grandfather of Bobby and Grace Savini. Edmund was the dear brother of Sally Grunzweig and her late husband Peter and the late William Knowles and his surviving wife June. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Wednesday, April 12th at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Edmund's Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:30am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Tuesday, April 11th from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
