Edward R. Cassidy, Sr. in Worcester, August 20, 2011. Beloved husband of MaryLou (Hendry), to whom he was married for 68 years, devoted father of Sister Marylou Cassidy, CSJ of Stoneham, Dr. E. Robert Cassidy, Jr. and his wife Dr. Jianne Gimian of Berkley, CA and Dr. Laurie M. Cassidy of Scranton, PA and her beloved companion, John Sabo of Sedalia, CO. Proud Grandpa Ed of Arianna Gimian Cassidy of Portland, OR. Born in Whitinsville, MA Ed was the son of the late Frank Blessing and Mary Anderson Cassidy. He grew up in Uxbridge, MA with his siblings who survive him - Mary Cassidy of Whitinsville, Margaret Manship of Gloucester and Clare Condon of South Carolina. Also surviving Ed are his brother-in-law, G. Christopher Condon, many loving nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Cocker, and brothers, Joseph Daniel Cassidy, OP and Francis Cassidy.



Ed was a WWII veteran and prisoner of war, graduating upon his return from St. Anselm College. He completed his masters' studies at the University of Massachusetts, after which he was a teacher, coach, and antique entrepreneur. Most of Ed's professional life was spent in the school textbook business, nationally and internationally. He served as longtime president of ESANE. For more than 50 years, the Cassidy family lived in Holliston, where Ed was active in Town Meeting, the Scholarship Committee, and St. Mary's Parish. Ed was a proud supporter of Veterans for Peace.



Family and friends are invited to join to honor Ed and share memories at Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St., Stoneham, Thursday, August 25 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham, after which there will be a reception in St. Patrick Parish Hall. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Holliston.



In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's honor may be made to Holliston Food Pantry, Holliston 01746 or Notre Dame du Lac Windows Restoration Fund, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605.
