Edward W. "Ed" Marchand

Edward “Ed” W. Marchand, a beloved family patriarch and respected community leader of Naples, Florida and Boothbay Harbor, Maine, breathed his last and died in a good old age, full of days on April 20, 2026.

Ed was born on March 28, 1937, in Medford, Massachusetts, to Wilfred and Esther Marchand. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Carol; his four children Dale Fisk (Richard Fisk), Michelle Marchand, Shari Robichaud (James Robichaud), and Linda Marchand; his six grandchildren Raquel Sevilla (Kalyan Chakravarthy), Curtis Marchand-Ryan, Alexandra Robichaud (Jared Walters), Ellis Marchand-Ryan, Victoria Robichaud (Ryan Forde), and Maya-Laura Vizcaino; and his four great-grandchildren Sada Chakravarthy, Anaya Chakravarthy, Emilia Robichaud-Walters, and Alice Forde. Also, many nieces and nephews.

Ed graduated from Medford High School and attended Northeastern University before earning his master’s degree from Boston University. He completed advanced professional training at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. These educational experiences strengthened the leadership and knowledge that guided him through a distinguished 40-year career in law enforcement.

He began his public service as a Police Officer in Reading, Massachusetts, where he became known for his diligence, attention to detail, and keen judgment. Over the years he rose through the ranks, serving as lieutenant and ultimately as Chief of Police for 20 years. He also served as president of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association. A resident of Reading for more than 50 years, Ed deeply cared for his town and helped shape its police department and community through steady leadership and a commitment to serving his community.

A man of broad interests and steady conviction, Ed was a 4th-degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Wakefield Elks for 55 years. He was appointed boxing commissioner by the governor of Massachusetts and traveled internationally as a boxing judge. Outside of his professional life he was an avid hunter and fisherman, a beekeeper, gardener, and skilled carpenter who loved the sea.

Ed was a commanding and principled presence and was respected by his community and family. He was truthful, direct, trustworthy, and dependable. Known to family as “Ed”, “Dad”, “Papa”, and “Grampy”, he leaves a legacy of service, strength, hard work, and wisdom that will live on in the lives of those he loved and those he served.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Ed's Family on Monday, April 27th from 9am - 10:30am in the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street, Reading, Massachusetts.  A Funeral Mass Celebrating Ed's Eternal Life will be held on Monday, April 27th at 11am in Saint Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street Reading.  Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
