Edward Jude O’Docahrtaigh of Reading, Massachusetts
Edward Jude O’Dochartaigh of Reading, Massachusetts passed away on June 15, 2026.
Jude was born on September 25, 1960, in Malden, Massachusetts, the firstborn son of Phyllis M. (nee Zaccaria) and the late Dr. Edward B. Doherty, he attended Saint Agnes School, Joshua Eaton, The Pike School, Malden Catholic, and Reading Memorial High School.
Jude continued his studies at Northeastern University, Salem State, UNH, and in Ireland. A lifelong learner, Jude was deeply curious about marine biology, the environment, history, and law. When a subject captured his attention, he was driven to find out all he could about it. And he did!
He was a voracious reader who took great pride in analyzing legal language and sharing his passion for Irish history and constitutional law. Jude was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Amoskeag Rugby Football Club. Deeply proud of his Irish ancestry, he also studied and learned Gaelic.
Professionally, Jude owned Lone Wolfe Construction, working throughout the New England and Midwest regions. He was a licensed master lead inspector and also a licensed tattoo artist. An adventurer at heart, he loved scuba diving, skiing, rock climbing, hunting, and riding his Harley Davidson. He was also a self-taught musician who played the harmonica, flute, and violin.
A fan of a wide range of musical genres—especially the Grateful Dead—and the humor of Monty Python, Jude also enjoyed The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and playing cribbage with his mother. Above all, he was a dedicated rebel who sought justice for the oppressed.
Jude loved his family dearly and was immensely proud of them. He is survived by his children, Siobhan Doherty and her daughters Nancy and Exilia, Liam Doherty and his wife Brandy, and Kane O’Malley Doherty. He also leaves behind his mother, Phyllis; his siblings, Beth Gravel and her husband Paul, Tricia Hughes and her husband Richard, Meg Kelley and her husband Keith, and Brian Doherty and his wife Jennifer; and many nieces, nephews, and friends across the US, Aruba, and Ireland.
Jude left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at Saint Agnes Church - 186 Woburn Street Reading, Massachusetts beginning at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Jude's Eternal Life at 11am.
