Edward C. Smith

November 22, 1923 — August 2, 2009

Edward C. Smith of Windham, New Hampshire, formerly of Reading, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009. He was 76 of age.



Born in Albany, New York, Edward was the loving son of the late Ursula R. (Casey) and Edward J. Smith. Edward was a warm and caring son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.



During the Korean War, Edward proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Marines.



Edward was the Past Grand Knight in 1976 for the Reading Coucil 1030. He was an usher at St. Athanasius Church for 23 years. Edward loved gardening and he enjoyed collecting John Deere Tractors.



Edward was the beloved husband of Barbara (Brandow) Smith. He was the devoted father of Kimberly Cotreau and her husband William of VA, Michael Smith and his wife Kathy of TX, Katie Saxon and her husband Ronald of TN, Christopher Smith and his wife Kelly, Caroline Murdoch and her husband Rick all of NH, Patrick Smith and his wife Crystal of NJ and the late Johnny Martin Smith. He was the cherished grandfather of 16, great grandfather of 2. Edward was the dear brother of Sister Rose Regina, Ursula Smith, John Smith and the late Ann Maloy and Joe Smith. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.



Funeral from the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Wednesday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Edward's life in St. Matthew Church, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH at 11 am. Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Tuesday 4-7 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot on Linden St. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
