Elizabeth (McQueston) "Betty" DiMario

Elizabeth "Betty" (McQueston) DiMario devoted wife of the late Francis "Frank" J. DiMario Sr. of Somerville peacefully passed away with her family at her side on Monday, April 13, 2026 at the age of 104. She was the devoted mother of five sons; Francis J. DiMario Jr. and his wife Sandra, the late Thomas DiMario, William DiMario and his wife Kate, Paul DiMario and his wife Cindy, and Richard DiMario.

She was the youngest daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Hake) McQueston, cherished sister to Mary (McQueston) DiMatteo and her husband the late George DiMatteo, and her brothers the late William McQueston and his late wife Rita, the late Alexander McQueston and his late wife Georgia.

Loving “Auntie” to Cecilia E. (McQueston) Phelan and her late husband Robert, Mary Ann McQueston, Donna (McQueston) Callahan and her husband William, and William McQueston and his wife Elaine.

Betty leaves her grandchildren: Trevor and Tyler DiMario, Sara (DiMario) Dyer and her husband Ryan, Jessica DiMario, Benjamin DiMario and his wife Iris, Matthew DiMario and his wife Rachel, and Anna DiMario, and her great grandchildren: Callan, Jack Ryan, and Michael.

Betty leaves her grand nephews and nieces, including Daniel Callahan and his wife Jessica Chambers Callahan, Brian Callahan. She is also survived by many other cousins, friends and relatives.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Somerville, a graduate of Somerville High School and completed additional skills training as a secretarial assistant. She initially worked in Boston at the Rapids Furniture Company across from the former Boston Gardens in the old North Station location and later after losing her husband, she re-entered the workforce and retired from Hewlett Packard in Waltham. After growing up through the Great Depression, she always believed in the importance of saving and living within your means. She was a gentle and perceptive woman who would never say a cross word even when one was deserved, although she readily disclosed it to her lifelong confident, her sister Mary. They were an inseparable pair, rarely seen without the company of the other. She often reminisced about their time growing up; frequently telling stories of Peggy their dog, sharing pieces of candy, choosing clothes and winter coats together, and the time they were each given etched glass vases. Throughout her life she was a patient peacemaker avoiding conflict and confrontation. Although she felt that her sister often received the nicer choices, she was sure to comment on receiving the “better vase” each time it was filled with flowers atop her dining room table.

After the war, she married and embraced the role of wife and mother to five boys. She was a lifelong Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots fan.

There are many other extended family members related to: DiMario, McQueston, Ciccanesi, Bucci, Cortina, Folosi, and Cota.
