Elizabeth A. (O'Connor) Day, of Reading, formerly of Stoneham, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 in Brightview in North Andover after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease which caused her to lose her vision. She is 82 years of age.
Born on September 18, 1939 in Somerville, she is a daughter of the late John and Marguerite (Guthrie) O'Connor. A graduate of Saint Joseph's High School, she then graduated from the School of Nursing at Somerville Hospital. Elizabeth married James E. Day on November 6, 1965 in her native parish of Saint Joseph in Somerville. They lived many years in Stoneham before moving to Reading in 1977.
As a nurse, her career in taking care of others spanned over 40 years. She began in the operating room at Winchester Hospital and then with Choate Medical Center. She transitioned to the NICU units at Boston Regional Hospital and lastly at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen before retiring there. She so enjoyed her years caring for the newborns and new mothers in the nursery and maternity areas.
Elizabeth was a devout member of Saint Patrick's Parish and served as secretary of The Guild of Bishop Fenwick.
In addition to her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Jim, Elizabeth leaves her children, Julie Reeves and Thomas Day and his partner, Carol Rogers; her grandchildren, Mark and Mara Reeves; her great-grandchild, Brix Reeves; her sister, Patricia Flaherty and the late John and Paul O'Connor and Mary Mahoney. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Saturday March 12th in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main Street (RT 28) STONEHAM at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Elizabeth's Eternal Life in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham at 10am. Interment Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Stoneham.
