Elizabeth M. (Doherty) Whelan

Elizabeth Marie (Doherty) "Betty" Whelan of Stoneham passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center. She was 85 years of age.

Born on November 27,1930 in Boston, Betty was the loving daughter of the late Cornelius Doherty and Mary (McFarland) Doherty. Betty was a warm and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Betty was a dedicated librarian for the Town of Stoneham for many years. She always greeted people with a kind and warm smile.

Betty was the beloved wife of Daniel Whelan. She was the devoted mother of Mary Whelan, Daniel Whelan and his wife Janice, James Whelan and his wife Lori, Janet Whelan, Diane Whelan and the late Nancy Whelan. The cherished grandmother of Ashley, Ryan, Kyle, James, Julia and Dylan, Betty was the loving great grandmother of Jackson and Rilee. She was the dear sister of the late Joseph, William and Cornelius Doherty and was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday, October 17th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Betty's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Sunday, October 16th from 2-6pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
