Enea Evangelista

A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Enea Evangelista, of Woburn, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025 with family present.

Enea is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Cesarale) Evangelista of Woburn; son Jeff and wife Donna of Stoneham; son Eric and wife Shannon of New Canaan, Connecticut; beloved grandchildren Jacob, Fritz, and Katherina; brother Claudio and wife Lucy of Wakefield; brother Remo and his late wife Maria of Rome, Italy; sister Velia and her late husband Antonio of Rome; and his many nieces and nephews. Enea was preceded in death by his mother Angelina and father Emilio of Rome, as well as his two sisters Bice and Antoinetta of Rome.

Enea was born on April 3, 1935 in Rome, Italy, and spent the first 10 years of his life living in the shadow of the second World War. During the war, his family lived in Cassino, Italy and were subjected to the Allied bombing and eventual destruction of the town and its famous Benedictine monastery Monte Cassino. He later became a lieutenant in the Italian Army, and then attended the University of Rome, before emigrating to Boston, Massachusetts in 1964 where he met and married Mary Cesarale of Somerville.

Enea graduated summa cum laude from Boston College with a degree in Economics, and then earned his MBA from Boston University. He was fluent in 4 languages and travelled the world extensively for business.

Enea had a long and distinguished career as an executive for both United Brands and Pacific Fruit. He also represented United Brands for many years at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, headquartered in Rome, Italy.

Enea was an avid reader of books in economics, history, Italian poetry and Italian fiction - especially Umberto Eco - and above all the ancient classics from Virgil, Herodotus, Ovid, Dante and other literary luminaries. His vast collection of National Geographic and The Economist magazines could fill a small museum.
