With heavy hearts we announce the death of Erasmo (Raymond) Viola of North Reading, Formerly of Waltham.

After battling dementia with dignity and grace, Raymond passed away at his home in the company of his family on February 7, 2022. He was 93.

Born and raised in Gaeta, Italy. He came to the United States in 1955 with his younger sister and brother to join his other sisters and their husbands. He lived in Somerville before settling in Waltham.

His warm demeanor was infectious and his laugh, a comfort to the ear.  He was a bright spark in the world and will be missed.

"Mr. Raymond" as his clients referred to him, was a professional hair stylist for over 5 decades. A majority of his career was spent at his second home, Yolanda's of Waltham, where he had a very large following. He was often asked to do television segments on latest trends and styled many celebrities including local news talent and Miss America.  He was a genuine, kind, gentle man that never said no to his customers.

At home he loved working in his garden, being with his grandchildren, family, and his favorite dog Mia.

Raymond was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and was unconditionally devoted to his family and friends.

Beloved husband of Maria A. (Colozzo) Viola. Loving father of Antoinette (Viola) Montana and her husband Scott Montana, Mary-Anne Rhoads and her husband Tom Rhoads, and Patricia Dugal and her husband Curt Dugal.

Cherished Grandfather of Marisa and Dante Montana, Matthew Rhoads and his wife Myra and daughter Ryylee, Thomas and Michael Dugal and the late Andrew Charles Nickerson.

Raymond was the brother of late Thomasina DiLiegro, Anna DiFraia, Antonio Viola and Frances DiCecca and is survived by many nieces and nephews. We take comfort in knowing that Raymond is at peace surrounded by light.

Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park Street, North Reading (Corner of Park St. & Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 8:30 to 10am.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating Raymond's Life will be held following the visitation at St. Theresa's Church, 63 Winter St., North Reading at 10:30am.  A private interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, North Reading for family only.
