Evelyn Ruth (Shaw) Croce was born September 5, 1924 to James L. Shaw and Helen Rose Ingalls at Winchester Hospital.
Evelyn was raised and educated in Reading. She graduated from Reading Memorial High School in 1941. Evelyn worked as the secretary to School Nurse at the Pearl Street School. She joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps with her twin sister, Eleanor, in World War II. She and her husband, Bernard A. Croce, from Wakefield raised six children, Diane, Bob, Bing, Karen, Deb, and David. Evelyn worked at Sanborn Egg Company and Carleton Processing Company, retiring in 1989 and moving to 345 Pearl St. with her Mother.
Evelyn was predeceased by children Diane and Robert, husband Bernard, sisters Eleanor and Betty, brother James, and mother Helen Shaw.
Evelyn loved spending time with her family. A Gold Star Mother, she was proud of all her children. Music and dancing were important to Evelyn throughout her life. She was a born entertainer who especially loved to sing. After retiring, she enjoyed aerobics and volunteered at the Reading Senior Center for many years. Evelyn loved classic movies, musicals, her cats, spending time outdoors, and doing crossword puzzles. In her later years, she became an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.
Evelyn was the wife of the late Bernard Croce. She was the mother of Bernard A. Croce, Karen Schwartz and her husband Stan, Deborah Adams and her husband Rob, David Croce, and the late Diane and Robert Croce. Loving grandmother of Mick Croce and his wife Caroline, Benjamin Schwartz and his wife Colette and Robert Carafotes. Beloved great grandmother of Scout, Thomas and James. Dear daughter of the late James and Helen (Ingalls) Shaw. Sister of the late Eleanor, Betty, and Jimmy.
Funeral from the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Monday September 25th, 2017 at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Evelyn's Eternal Life in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:30am. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
