It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Florence L. (Fleming) Hoffman, 94, on May 8th 2025, of Reading Ma.
Florence was raised in Somerville, Ma. and graduated from Somerville High School and went on to graduate from Colby Sawyer College with a Medical Secretary degree. Her 1st job after graduating was with Dr. Laurie, in Boston Ma. She took time off to raise her family along with her late ex-husband (C. Russell Hoffman, 1928 – 1998).
She reentered the workforce in 1974 at Winchester Hospital, as a Financial Secretary and worked her way to the Executive Secretary to the President of the Hospital, till her retirement in 1996. Florence had many long-time friends throughout her life that she maintained up to her passing. In her early days in Somerville, she was a member of Rainbow for Girls, working her way up thru the ranks to Worthy Advisor.
She was a member of the Junior Women’s club of Reading Ma. She was an avid reader, frequenting the public library bi-weekly. She loved to travel and play cribbage with family. She loved to cook. Most of all Florence will be remembered for her Integrity, her sharp intellect, her compassion, and her unyielding commitment of support and love to the lives of family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
She was the loving daughter of Hermon A. (Buster) Fleming and Henrietta Vivian (Hunter) Fleming of Somerville. Loving mother to the late Karen Vivian Hoffman (1954 – 2019), Scott A. Hoffman of Reading and Bonnie L (Hoffman) Mack and her husband Sean F. Mack of North Reading. Cherished “Grammie” to Stephen Mack of New Hampshire, Natalie Mack of North Reading and Cameron & Cory Hoffman of Reading.
A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.
