Francis P. Cunningham, Jr.

Francis P. Cunningham, Jr. of Reading, formerly of Cambridge, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the age of 62. Francis was affectionately known by family and friends as Frank, Fran, Buddy and Bud.

Francis was the devoted husband of Maureen A. (Scannell) Cunningham. He was the beloved son of Mary J. (Avery) Cunningham and the late Francis P. Cunningham.    

Francis graduated from St. Mary of the Annunciation High School, Cambridge, Class of 1980 where he met his wife Maureen. They began dating in February of 1980 and married in May of 1987.  He was a devoted husband and loved his wife deeply. Francis was a retired member of Pipefitters Local Union 537, Boston and graduate of the UA Training Center, Dorchester.  He was an avid sports fan with a passion for the game of basketball which he played as a youth up until men's summer leagues and pick up games at the gym.  Francis enjoyed working out and lifting weights regularly.  When he was not watching sports, he enjoyed western movies.  He had a love for all animals and adored his dog Rocky and cat Champion.  Francis was a kind, gentle and loyal husband, son, brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend and will be truly missed.  His memory will live on in the many lives he touched.

Francis was the dear brother of Janet Mahoney and her husband Steve, Edward Cunningham and his partner Kristen Farhat and Jean Cunningham. He was the dear brother-in-law of Paula Scannell and Richard Scannell and his wife Sandra. Francis was the cherished uncle of Steve Mahoney and his wife Kim, Jessica Poule and her husband Chris, Erin Evans and her husband Gabe, Brandon Cunningham and his wife Amanda, Eddie Cunningham, Stephen Scannell and his wife Brie, Katie Clark and her husband Mike, Elizabeth Scannell and Jacob Scannell Rich. He was the cherished great uncle to Myles Mahoney, Hunter and Haven Poule, Elijah, Jakob, and Rory Evans, Avery Cunningham, Evie and Thomas Scannell and Sophia Clark.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Mass Celebrating Francis' Eternal Life on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024 at 10:30am in Saint Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street READING.  Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
